Koper Library Municipal Reading Room
Organizer: Srečko Vilhar Library Koper, Faculty of Humanities, University of Primorska
The Srečko Vilhar Central Library Koper, in collaboration with the Institute of Cultural History at ZRC SAZU and the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Primorska, cordially invites you to the tenth anniversary edition of the international scholarly symposium Divina – Days of Andreas Divus from Iustinopolis.
For a decade, the symposium has brought together scholars of medieval and early modern Latin literature, philology, translation studies and intellectual history. This year's gathering forms part of Santorio Year 2026, with particular emphasis on Latin medical scholarship and the legacy of Santorio Santorio (1561–1636), the distinguished physician and scholar from Koper and a pioneer of experimental medicine. The symposium also commemorates the 400th anniversary of the second edition of his commentary on Avicenna's Canon (1626).
The symposium will bring together scholars and university professors from Poland, Italy, Germany, Croatia and Slovenia, including representatives of the universities of Łódź, Catania, Würzburg, Zadar and Ljubljana, alongside Slovenian research institutions. Their contributions will explore the Latin textual heritage, the transmission of knowledge and the intellectual and cultural exchanges between Central Europe and the Mediterranean.
The programme will open on Thursday, 22 October, at 4.00 p.m., with the guided historical walk Walking Santorio's Koper, led by Peter Štoka and Tedej Sušelj. The scholarly symposium will take place on Friday, 23 October, in the City Reading Room of the Srečko Vilhar Central Library Koper.
You are cordially invited! Admission is free.
